Time Management:

SHOW UP EARLY:

Give yourself at least 15 minutes to...

-check in

-change

-warm up 

WAITING TIME:

-get your body warm

-stretch, focus on tight areas

Attitude:

BE NICE TO EVERYONE:

-you never know who you are talking to and who has an influence on the audition results

-plus it'll calm you down if you smile and be kind to people!

NERVES ARE OK!

-here's a quick tip:

1. stand in the middle of the

2. room, notice the color of the walls,

3. notice the color of the floors,

4. feel the ground beneath your feet,

5. take a deep breath

​

-harness your nervous energy into laser sharp focus and exploring the moves!

​

COMING AND GOING:

-if you have a moment and it's an appropriate time, introduce yourself to others around you including who is running the audition

​

-when leaving, don't forget to go up to the demonstrators and bow/curtsy/thank them for their time! 

Be Prepared:

REGISTRATION FORMS:

-usually summer intensives or company auditions have you print out a form and bring it in

RESUME AND PHOTOS:

-have your resume, head shot and dance shot printed and brought with you

DRESS APPROPRIATELY:

-dress according to their dress code; otherwise dress for the part​ (see below)

During the Audition:

EXPERIMENT:

-they want you to try new things and experiment with the material given, make it your own!

TRY, TRY, TRY:

-at every single summer intensive audition they want to see you can put in the work and have potential to grow

-if you're tired, they want to see you push through it

​

STAY FOCUED:

-don't watch the directors or panel, stay focused on what you are doing!

MISTAKES HAPPEN:

-and that's OK!

-practice as if on stage, don't let them see your frustration, keep going!

ATTIRE:

If the audition doesn't have a dress code:

​

-wear a COLOR that compliments your skin/hair/eyes

​

-wear a leo that HIGHLIGHTS your best features

and

hides your least favorite features

Commercial audition (SYTYCD)

WEAR:

Booty shorts and sports bra

PART:

Contemporary/Ballet Company

WEAR:

-Memorable leotard or unitard that makes you feel comfortable

-Bright

-Interesting detail (pattern, cutouts)

Highlights skin tone and arms

Hides belly and back

Highlights eye color and back

Hides arms
