SPRAIN:

WHAT IS IT?

"Injury of the bands of tissue that connect two bones together" -Mayo Clinic

FEELS LIKE:

-muscle pain

-tenderness

LOOKS LIKE:

-swelling

-bruising

RECOVERY:

-Rest

-Ice (off and on for 15 minutes)

-Compression (wrap in bandage)

-Elevate (above your heart)

-strength of surrounding muscles through at home exercises or PT

MUSCLE TEAR:

STRAIN:

WHAT IS IT?

"injury to a muscle or to the band of tissue that attaches a muscle to a bone" -Mayo Clinic

FEELS LIKE:

-mild pain

-possible "pop" sensation

LOOKS LIKE:

swelling

RECOVERY:

-Rest

-Ice (off and on for 15 minutes)

-Compression (wrap in bandage)

-Elevate (above your heart)

WHAT IS IT?

Damage to a muscle or it's attaching tendons.

FEELS LIKE:

-sudden severe pain

-"pop" sensation

-feeling of a loose joint

LOOKS LIKE:

-immediate bruising

-inability to put weight on affected area

RECOVERY:

-Rest

-Ice (off and on for 15 minutes)

-Compression (wrap in bandage)

-Elevate (above your heart)

BREAK:

WHAT IS IT?

A complete or partial break of bone.

FEELS LIKE:

-pain becomes worse when you apply pressure or move injured limb,

-numbness or tingling,

-a "cracking" not "popping" sound at time of injury

-loose joint

LOOKS LIKE:

-severe swelling or

-bruising over top of bone

RECOVERY:

-cast or splint for immobility of broken bone
